Tornillo Fine Art is more than the collection of paintings that make it onto this site or the many more that do not. My background is in Art History and Religion. Both of these disciplines are overwhelmingly concerned with words and ideas and the ongoing conversation about perception and meaning and truth and how these things are expressed by humans through the ages. So, some of that shows up here, albeit in an accessible form that hopefully visitors can appreciate.
Painting is important. Real artists are those that wrestle with the big questions, and many real artists are (in spite of technological changes, changes in visual culture, or shifts in art world predilections), still painters. This stuff matters.
What you’ll find here is a mix of musings and meandering and miscellany, some of which may be taken seriously, and some of which may hardly be taken at all. It’s included because, as I say, it is important and helps to flesh out what it is I am trying to do with all that paint on all those canvases.
